'Perfect' Pacquiao ready for Cotto: boxer's trainer

'Perfect' Pacquiao ready for Cotto: boxer's trainer
AFP - Friday, October 23
Manny Pacquiao is seen during a training session in Baguio City in the northern Philippines. Pacquiao has overcome disruptions from typhoons and landslides while training in the Philippines to be in ideal shape ahead of his big bout with Miguel Cotto, according to his trainer.

MANILA (AFP) - – Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao has overcome disruptions from typhoons and landslides while training in the Philippines to be in ideal shape ahead of his big bout with Miguel Cotto, his trainer said.
"He is right where I want him to be, perfect," Freddie Roach told AFP on Thursday evening after the six-time world-champion completed a heavy workout that included 10 rounds of sparring in a Manila gym.
Pacquiao will head to the United States on the weekend after an intense five weeks of training in his home country, during which more than 1,000 people died in natural disasters.
Pacquiao was even forced to move camps from the cool mountain resort of Baguio to the sweaty capital of Manila after storms claimed hundreds of lives in and around the hill station, then a typhoon threatened more damage there.
But Roach insisted the disasters had not impacted his 30-year-old protege, who stunned the world with victories over American great Oscar de la Hoya last year and Britain's Ricky Hatton in May.
"We didn't let it affect our training. We worked right through it and never missed a day," Roach said of the storms.
"So it was a great training camp in Baguio."
Pacquiao is a deeply religious man and a hero to virtually everyone in the Southeast Asian nation. But Roach said Pacquiao had remained completely committed to his training despite the disasters going on around him.
"One hundred percent. No problem at all. It's been a really good training camp. He's been focused from day one, throughout," he said.
Pacquiao will travel to Los Angeles for two weeks of training ahead of his November 14 fight against Cotto, the 27-year-old Puerto Rican who is looking to snatch the Filipino's status as best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
Cotto, the WBO welterweight champion, is a huge underdog for the 145-pound bout at the MGM Grand hotel and casino in Las Vegas.
But his trainer, Joe Santiago, said this week he was confident of an upset.
"When that night comes and he wins, everyone will know that Puerto Rico does have the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world," Santiago said from Cotto's training camp at the Fight Factory Gym in Tampa, Florida.
"Cotto is the first true welterweight that (Pacquiao) will have fought in his career. He is young and still in his prime so that is what Pacquiao is facing."

Typhoon Santi to hit Central Luzon Saturday morning

Pagasa: Typhoon Santi to hit Central Luzon Saturday morning
GMANews.TV - Friday, October 30
Typhoon “Santi" (international name: Mirinae), the fourth cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in October, is expected to hit provinces in central Luzon on Saturday morning and may bring heavy rains and winds to Metro Manila, the state weather bureau said Thursday night. In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Santi was last spotted 800 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora province and is moving westward towards central Luzon at 20 kph. Santi maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. Based on the current Pagasa forecast, Santi’s center is expected to hit Aurora province by Saturday morning, and in the vicinity of Nueva Ecija or at 90 km north of Metro Manila by Saturday afternoon. Public storm signal no. 2 was hoisted over Aurora province, Northern Quezon and Polilio Island. Under storm signal no. 1 are the provinces of Isabela, Ifugao, Quirino, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, the rest of Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes. Although no storm signal warning was raised over Metro Manila, Pagasa warned of heavy rains and winds that might be experienced over the area. “Kahit ang sentro ni Santi ay dito dumaan sa pagitan ng central at northern Luzon, mararamdaman natin ang ulan at hangin na dala nitong si Santi dito sa Metro Manila," said Pagasa spokesperson Nathaniel Cruz. (Although Santi’s center would pass somewhere between central and northern Luzon, we will feel here in Metro Manila the rains and winds brought by Santi.)
Foreign weather agencies such as the US Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) also forecast Santi to pass through central Luzon on Saturday. Earlier on Thursday, Pagasa forecasters said they were studying the possibility of recommending yet another round of water release in major dams in Luzon, which were in the direct path of the typhoon. [See: Water release mulled for dams along Santi's path]
Santi is the nineteenth weather disturbance to hit the country this year and the fourth cyclone (after Pepeng, Quedan, and Ramil) to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month. - GMANews.TV

Sepak takraw

ABOUT SEPAK TAKRAW

'Sepak Raga' was the name of an ancient game played in the Malay states and in the neighboring countries of Singapore and Brunei. 'Sepak' is Malay for "kick" and 'Raga' is the "rattan ball" used in the game, which involved players standing in a circle keeping the 'Raga' in the air for as long as possible without using their hands. Variations of this were played in other Southeast Asian countries too; in Thailand it was called "Takraw", in the Philippines, "Sepa Sepa", in Myanmar, "Ching Loong", in Indonesia, "Rago" and in Laos, "Kator".Modern Sepak Takraw, or Takraw for short (also known as Kick Volleyball), began in Malaysia and is now their national sport. It combines elements of Soccer, Footbag, Volleyball, Baseball, Badminton, Gymnastics and the ancient sport of Sepak Raga. Balls woven of rattan stems have primarily been replaced by woven synthetic balls, which are much safer and more durable. The Sepak Takraw court and net are of the same height and dimensions as in badminton. A team consisting of 3 members is called a "Regu". Two regus compete for higher scores by spiking a ball into the opponent's court. Most of the same rules apply as for volley ball, with the following main exceptions:- players are prohibited from using their hands & arms- a player can touch the ball up to 3 times consecutively- the players' positions on the court need not be rotated- net serves (falling within the boundary) are acceptedA match is composed of 3 sets. The first regu to score 21 points wins a set. The first regu winning two sets wins the match. In either set, if both regus are tied, 20 - 20, play continues until one regu wins by 2 points, up to a ceiling of 25 points. If each regu wins one set out of the first two, then the third set is played and is called the "Tiebreak". The Tiebreak only goes up to 15 points, but again a regu must win by 2 points, up to a ceiling of 17.Many who see Sepak Takraw being played, or try it themselves, for the first time often make comments like, “This is the most amazing sport!”, “Did you see that?!”, “Takraw rocks, I’m in!”, “This is great for improving soccer skills!”, etc.THE MYTH is that only super flexible, agile, athletes can play this game … totally NOT true! Anyone of any age or ability level can play Sepak Takraw, simply MODIFY it for beginners and increase the challenge as their eye-foot skills improve. For more information on Sepak Takraw, visit the web sites of the following organizations

(may bayad yan)

Ligo muna bago matulog..
Konting panood ng Tv
Bandila.
2 Am matutulog na ko.

Rankings: Pac-man back on top

The Yahoo! Sports monthly rankings underwent big changes in October despite the fact that none of the top-ranked fighters were in action.
Manny Pacquiao, who faces Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 in Las Vegas in what is expected to be a high-paced bout, supplanted Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the top spot. Mayweather had a one-point edge over Pacquiao in September, but Pacquiao climbed past him by five points in October.
Three fewer voters participated in the voting in October than did in September and that appeared to help Pacquiao. Pacquiao received 13 of the 25 first-place votes from the elite panel of boxing writers, with Mayweather picking up the other first-place 12 votes.
The difference turned out to be that all of those who did not vote for Pacquiao as No. 1 had him as No. 2. However, Mayweather had nine second-place votes, two third-place votes and one fourth.

That dropped him from the top spot and into second place.
Bernard Hopkins, who last fought on Oct. 18, 2008, when he routed Kelly Pavlik in Atlantic City, N.J., also tumbled. Though Hopkins hasn’t fought in more than a year, he was ruled eligible to be voted upon since he has a Dec. 2 fight scheduled against Enrique Ornelas.
But some voters expressed disappointment with Hopkins’ choice of a tune-up opponent as well as his planned 2010 fight against Roy Jones Jr. and either dropped him totally from their top 10 or dropped him in the list.
Hopkins, who was in a tie with Shane Mosley for fourth in September, is now seventh. The other change in the rankings saw Juan Manuel Lopez, who had been No. 9, falling out of the top 10 despite a decision victory over Rogers Mtgawa on Oct. 10. Lopez struggled down the stretch and had to hang on in the final round to win.
Voters opted to dump him because of that and put in former middleweight champion Arthur Abraham in ninth place. Abraham knocked out Jermain Taylor in the 12th round of their opening round match in the Super Six tournament on Oct. 17.

Mainit ba ang dugo?

Sa iba-ibang paraan
meron kani-kaniyang style
ng pagpaparamdam
ng pagkagusto at pagkainis
sa tao o hayop,
lugar at bagay,
hugis at anyo,
sukat at kulay
ng nakikita man o naririnig
o kaya sa kung akma sa panlasa
kung mabango ba
o hindi makain
dahil mapait at sobrang asim.

Paano uuriin ang materyal
kung meron syang dahilan
para angkinin,
ang isang salita dapat bang gamitin
para ipahayag
iba-ibang saloobin...
namnamin dakilang payo
na di' mo alam
kung kanino naggaling.

Saan ba paparating
ang isang mensahe na
walang laman at ibig sabihin?...
mabasa kaya ito
ng kinauukulan na laging nagkukulang?
Mag-ukol ka ng pansin
at kahit konti
subukan mong alamin

meron ibang sangkap
baka naman akala mo hindi masarap!
Minsan kasi sa buhay-
hindi mo handang tanggapin
ngayon ang nasa harap
dehins mo malasap.

At nagmalaki ka pa!
Hindi ka man nagsasawa
sa mga dati mo nang ginagawa
e baka naman makabubuting
dagdagan ng sabaw para
magkasya sa lahat masaya!...
mas maganda di' ba
ihahain mo ng mainit-init pa?!

Akaalin mo sa kabila pala
ng mga kapalpakan
kahit matagal, daming nakapila
ng maiinam na idea
para likutin ang giya
ng bangka na pumapalaot na
bilang ay iilang
salusalungat na sumasagwan.

Madalas nakakatulong din ang hunos at bagyo-
pagkatapos manalasa... yun dumarami ang nagkukusa.
Ang iba nagluluksa

ang bugso ng pagdamay
reaksyon ng galit, awa.
alab ng pagbibigay katwiran
sa mga dahilan
dahil sa liyab ng puso mo
malaya sa pagpili kung ano
ano ang pasya..
ano ang ibig sabihin...
Ng mainit mo bang dugo?

Ramil weakens into a tropical storm
GMANews.TV - Saturday, October 24

State weather forecasters decreased the number of areas under Storm Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Ramil weakened into a tropical storm Friday afternoon. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Ramil's strength has decreased, now with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. A comparison of Ramil's possible paths predicted by Pagasa, the Japan Meteorological Agency, and the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center, as of Friday afternoon. Ramil remains almost stationary with its center 110 kms east northeast of Appari in Cagayan, Pagasa said. The Japan Meteorological Agency, however, showed the cyclone veering further away from northern Luzon.
Repeatedly asked in an earlier media briefing about exactly when Ramil is expected to make a landfall, Pagasa spokesman Nathaniel Cruz emphasized that the exact time and place of the landfall is already immaterial, since even at the storm’s current position, northern Cagayan and the outlying islands are already feeling its full fury.
Earlier at 10 a.m., Pagasa said Ramil packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph, prompting the state weather bureau to place under Signal No. 3 (where the strength of winds range from 101 kph-185 kph) the Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Calayan Island, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte. But as of 5 p.m. only Northern Cagayan, the Batanes Group of Islands, Calayan Islands, and Babuyan Islands remained under storm Signal No. 3
Areas under storm signal No. 2 (60-100 kph winds) are the rest of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Apayao, while under Signal No. 1 (30-60 kph winds) are Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Isabela, Ifugao, Quirino, and Northern Aurora. As in previous advisories, Pagasa reminded residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under storm signals to take precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.
It also reminded those living along the coast in areas under signals No. 2 and No. 3 against storm surge and big waves generated by the typhoon.
According to Pagasa, Ramil is expected to be 105 km northeast of Aparri by Saturday afternoon, 115 km northeast of the same area by Sunday afternoon, and 140 km north northeast of Aparri by Monday afternoon.
See a more detailed description for each storm warning on Pagasa's website. Ramil comes on the heels of two cyclones that devastated parts of northern Luzon: tropical storm "Ondoy," and typhoon "Pepeng." Both caused massive flooding and loss of lives in Metro Manila and other Luzon areas. - Johanna Camille Sisante, GMANews.TV

'Ramil' slows down; Pagasa hints landfall delayed anew

A comparison of the Ramil's possible paths predicted by Pagasa, the Japan Meteorological Agency, and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, as of early Thursday morning. Note that JMA's prediction (middle) is different from Pagasa's and the JTWC's. Typhoon "Ramil" (Lupit) slowed down anew Thursday and may not make landfall until at least this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said Ramil would still be some 110 km east of Aparri in Cagayan by Sunday morning, given the cyclone’s present movement.
“Nagbago ang kanyang speed of movement. Kahapon around 15 kph, subalit bumagal pa kaninang madaling araw. Halos 3 kph lang ... so medyo matatagalan pa bago tumama ng kalupaan (‘Ramil’ slowed down from 15 kph to about 3 kph. So it will take longer before making landfall)," Pagasa head Prisco Nilo said in an interview on dzXL radio.
When asked when "Ramil" will make landfall, he said, “bandang Lunes pa tatama ng kalupaan (it may make landfall Monday)."
But he also said it is an indication the typhoon may eventually change course. He, however, did not elaborate.
On the other hand, Nilo said landfall may still occur during the weekend as it is also possible "Ramil" will again speed up within the day.
Different paths For its part, Japan Meteorological Agency's forecast indicated Ramil remains on course to make landfall in northeast Luzon.
The JMA's 5:40 a.m. (Manila time) forecast indicated it may even have an impact to as far as Central Luzon, with a storm warning area of 280 km.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said Ramil was moving west southwest "slowly" and may be 250 km east of Aparri in Cagayan Friday morning, and 180 km east of Aparri Saturday morning.
As of 4 a.m. Thursday, Pagasa said Ramil was about 350 km east northeast of Aparri with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.
Areas under storm signal No. 3 are Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Calayan Island, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, and Isabela.
Areas under storm signal No. 2, meanwhile, are Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora.
Those under signal No. 1 are Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Northern Quezon, and Polillo Islands.
"Northern Luzon will experience stormy weather while Central Luzon will have rains and gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. The rest of the country will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said.
Preparations
Noting that people in flood- and landslide-prone areas are now more cooperative than before, Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) spokesman Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres Jr said that they are now ready for Ramil’s onslaught.
In an interview Thursday on dzXL radio, he said the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines have been tasked to guard the vacated areas against looters, as many families had refused to leave their homes before because of the threat of looting.
Also, Torres noted governors and mayors in northern Luzon had ordered evacuations in coastal areas, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas.
He said in a separate interview over GMA News' Unang Hirit that local disaster coordinating councils have identified the areas prone to floods and landslides.
"In every province and municipality nag-conduct po ng hazard mapping yung ating mga local disaster coordinating councils and na-identify po nila saan yung mga hazardous areas sa landslides pati na rin po sa mga pagbabaha," he said.
(In every province and municipality, local coordinating councils have conducted hazard mapping to identify hazardous areas where landslides and flooding occur.) In its 6 a.m. report, the NDCC said 37,123 firefighters, police and public works personnel have been pre-positioned in Luzon. Last Tuesday, the Department Interior and Local Government issued a regional memorandum reiterating the government’s “Zero Casualty" policy.
In Cagayan Valley, the local Social Welfare Department forged an agreement with Smart Communications to set up a free communication system for families affected by Ramil.
In Cagayan, radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported at least 50 families had been preemptively evacuated in Aparri town, after a seven-meter storm surge destroyed part of a breakwater.
Also, radio dzXL reported that some bus firms in Metro Manila had canceled trips to Cagayan since Wednesday night for fear their buses may be stranded due to winds, rains and floods. - GMANews.TV

Erap embarks on last performance of his life

Erap embarks on last performance of his life

Erap embarks on last performance of his life
MANILA, Philippines - Seeking vindication after his ouster from the presidency and conviction for plunder, Joseph Estrada asked Filipinos yesterday to give him a second chance.
“This is the last performance of my life and I will not fail you,” the former president told a cheering crowd in Tondo, Manila, where he announced his plan to run in the 2010 elections, with Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay as his running mate.
Expecting legal challenges to his bid, Estrada said the voice of the people is the voice of God, and voters should be the final judge.
He also announced his tentative senatorial slate: his son Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Ilocos Norte Gov. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Makati Rep. Teodoro Locsin Jr., ZTE scandal whistle-blower Joey de Venecia, detained rebel leader Danny Lim, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and Ompong Plaza. Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago is a guest candidate.
At his presidential inaugural in 1998, Estrada, a former movie star, had promised to deliver “the greatest performance of my life.” He was ousted less than halfway into his term and replaced by his vice president and constitutional successor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
With Binay, Estrada said, he could rest assured that his vice president would not be plotting behind his back to bring him down.
Estrada said Binay could help turn the country into another Makati, a city where the masses receive heavy social protection protection including free education, health care and even free admission in moviehouses for senior citizens.
In his speech, Estrada decried that he had been unjustly detained for six years and isolated from his family and supporters.
“I have followed the law and I have already forgotten all the lies and charges leveled against me. But you did not leave me,” he said referring to his supporters.
He said it’s his mission to deliver the country from poverty and culture of corruption under the Arroyo administration.
“This administration forgot about education. The budget for education did not even reach half of the country’s debt. We have P2 trillion debts at present and this will rise to P4 trillion by 2010,” he said.
“I took care of Mindanao to make it a food basket, but this administration, through the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain almost gave it up,” Estrada said.
He also vowed to be tougher in dealing with secessionists and terrorists in Mindanao.
“Mindanao will not progress if we will not finish all these kinds of terrorism. Corruption in government is rampant,” he said.
He said that under his administration, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF lost its camps in Mindanao.
He also took a swipe at the “elitists” whom he accused of having conspired to have him removed.
“Vox populi, vox dei. The voice of the people is the voice of God. But the elitists are not listening to voice of the people that is why we are here now,” he said. “Are we better off today than in 2001?”
Rivals are expected to challenge his candidacy before the Supreme Court and invoke a constitutional ban on a second term for any president.
Estrada’s camp has insisted he is not covered by the ban because he was “illegally” removed from power.
“I was demonized then unconstitutionally removed,” Estrada said.
Albert Lim of the Makati Business Club said Estrada’s poor record as president and his criminal conviction should be enough reasons for him not to run again.
“Going by his track record, why should anyone think that he’ll be a good president?” Lim asked. “He won’t be good for business.”
Despite his ouster, conviction and detention, Estrada steadfastly denied the charges of plundering government coffers through kickbacks and illegal gambling payoffs. He never parted with a visible symbol of his power – his trademark wristband.
“During the lowest point in my life, the poor did not abandon me,” he said.
Estrada rose to movie stardom in his early 20s, playing tough guys with a soft spot for the needy – roles that earned him the hearts of the masses that make up almost half of the population.
In the 1970s, he won five best actor awards in the Philippines’ version of the Oscars.
Estrada entered politics in 1969 with his election as mayor of Manila’s San Juan suburb, a post he kept for 17 years.
He was elected senator in 1987, then vice president in 1992 despite a life of boozing, gambling and womanizing – foibles that humanized and endeared him to ordinary Filipinos but disturbed the influential Roman Catholic Church and the business community.
He has acknowledged fathering children with several women other than his wife.
He banked on his macho, Filipino everyman charisma to win the presidency in 1998 with one of the largest margins in recent memory.
Legal basis
Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and University of the East dean of the College of Law Amado Valdez said there is no legal impediment to Estrada’s joining the presidential race in 2010.
“Many legal luminaries, former Supreme Court justices, well-known lawyers have conducted a study on whether President Estrada can run or not. Is President Estrada running for reelection? No, he is not running for reelection. He is running for another election because he was not allowed to finish his term and he was unduly removed from the presidency,” Rodriguez said.
“The rich businessmen conspired with the disgruntled members of the military and hungry for power politicians to remove him. He relinquished his post to prevent bloodshed,” he said.
Rodriguez said that constitutional provision banning reelection of the president only applies to an incumbent president or one who has finished his six-year term.
“President Estrada is not the incumbent. The ban on reelection is intended to prevent an incumbent president to use the government machinery during his reelection bid,” he said.
“Even Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno, in one of the rulings of the Supreme Court, said that the better policy approach is to let the people decide. He said the Supreme Court may err, but the sovereign people will not,” he said.
“The prohibition on reelection for president applies only to incumbent presidents and those who have finished six years term,” Valdez, for his part, said.
“That intention of the law is to prevent the incumbent from using the machinery of the government for his reelection bid,” he said.
No endorsement
Chief Justice Puno, meanwhile, said he is not endorsing Estrada.
Puno was reacting to newspaper ads from the Estrada camp that quoted him as saying that the people should decide who should be the next president.
“It is quite clear from the paid ad that the quote is from Chief Justice Puno’s opinion in the 2004 Tecson case which has peculiar facts as it involved the citizenship of FPJ. It is not an endorsement and should not be perceived or used as such by any candidate,” SC spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said.
Marquez also said Estrada’s camp did not even get Puno’s permission on the use of his photo and ruling.
He said Puno’s decision not to endorse any candidate in next year’s polls “is also in keeping with the nature of the Moral Force Movement convened by the Chief Justice to be non-partisan.”
Unfazed
Malacañang said Estrada’s announcement was nothing.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita noted that Estrada has been making these pronouncements about his political plans for 2010 since his release from house arrest.
“I think we have heard enough, we have read enough about the plans of former President Estrada. I don’t see why there should be any surprises about his (declaring) publicly what he plans to do,” Ermita said.
He said it is clear in the conditions of Estrada’s pardon that he cannot seek an elective post again.
Eventually, Ermita said the courts would have to rule on the matter.
“I believe that in the end, everything will have to be settled judicially. I’m sure there will be citizens who will come out in the open questioning his certificate of candidacy and therefore, they might bring this matter to court, maybe in the highest court,” Ermita said.
“What I’m only saying is that somehow there has got to be a judicial remedy to this to end any speculation as to whether it’s alright for him to run or not to run,” he added.
Irresponsible
In Koronadal City, the MILF assailed Estrada for his bellicose statement on dealing with insurgencies.
In a radio interview here, Gadzali Jaafar, vice-chairman for political affairs of the MILF, said Estrada’s “irresponsible statements” would only “aggravate” the situation in Mindanao.
“Palalain lang niya ang situation dito sa Mindanao. Hindi kami natatakot sa sinasabi niya (He will just make things worse here in Mindanao. We’re not afraid of his threats),” Jaafar said over Bombo Radyo Koronadal.
Jaafar and other MILF officials believe Estrada is using the Mindanao to attract votes.
He said the ousted leader should “shut up” and withdraw from the presidential race because, he said, “he has no chance of winning.”
No defection
Meanwhile, Environment Secretary Lito Atienza denied reports that he has jumped to Estrada’s camp.
A newspaper report (not The STAR) said Estrada was poised to announce his choice of Atienza as the United Opposition’s and Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino’s Manila mayoralty bet.
“Don’t believe it. It’s an enterprise story,” Atienza said. “I don’t want to totally deny but it is not true that I jumped ship. I don’t jump ship, you know that,” he said.
When asked about persistent rumors that he was planning to run again as Manila mayor he said he didn’t want to talk about politics. – With Marvin Sy, Edu Punay, Ramil Bajo, Katherine Adraneda, AP - By Jose Rodel Clapano (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

Philippines on high alert ahead of Typhoon Lupit

Philippines on high alert ahead of Typhoon Lupit
AFP - Tuesday, October 20

MANILA (AFP) - – The Philippine military deployed boats and helicopters to the northern Philippines Monday, officials said, as Typhoon Lupit threatened more devastation after two storms claimed nearly 1,000 lives.
"We have been pre-positioning food and transportation assets in areas likely to be hit by the typhoon," Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro told reporters.
The navy said it had sent 18 rubber boats, as well as trucks, amphibious vehicles and helicopters to areas of the nation's main Luzon island, which is expected to start being lashed by Lupit from the middle of this week.
The army said troops from its engineering units were also being deployed to the north, while the air force said rescue helicopters had already been sent to areas in Lupit's projected path.
The Southeast Asian nation was on particularly high alert because Luzon is still reeling from two storms in recent weeks that caused massive landslides and floods.
On September 26 Tropical Storm Ketsana dumped the heaviest single day of rains in more than four decades on Manila and surrounding areas, killing 420 people and causing nearly 100 more deaths from ensuing disease outbreaks.
Typhoon Parma hit northern Luzon exactly a week later and hovered over the region for a week as a tropical storm, triggering landslides and floods that left at least 438 people dead.
"We are all on alert," Philippine National Red Cross secretary general Gwen Pang told AFP, as she detailed efforts to stockpile relief goods close to areas that are expected to be affected by Lupit.
Teodoro also said mayors in mountainous regions in the north had been asked to convince their constituents to move to safer areas, and away from potential landslides.
Packing winds of 175 kilometres (109 miles) an hour and gusts of up to 210 kilometres an hour, Lupit was hovering at 1,110 kilometres east of Cagayan province on Monday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
It was expected to make landfall in northern Luzon on Thursday, although it could start bringing bad weather to the region a day earlier, it said.

Intensity 5.3 quake hits Occ. Mindoro

ABS-CBN - Monday, October 19

Intensity 5.3 quake hits Occ. Mindoro, no tsunami alert
MANILA - A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro Monday morning and was felt as far as Metro Manila.
A Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology report said the tectonic quake struck at 7:50 a.m. It was felt at Intensity IV in Looc, Lubang; Intensity III in Batangas City; Iba, Zambales and Clark, Pampanga; and Intensity II in Talisay, Batangas, Calamba, Laguna, Makati, Manila, Pasay, Pasig. Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong and Cavite.
Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said the agency will not be issuing a tsunami alert.
"The magnitude of the quake was only 5.3. Typically for a tsunami to be generated by an earthquake, it should have a magnitude of 6.5 and the depth should be shallow enough -- less than 50 kilometers. The magnitudeof this earthquake was not that strong and the depth of the earthquake was deep at 121 km so this cannot trigger any tsunami," Solidum said in an ANC interview.
He said the agency does not expect the earthquake to cause any damage but warned that aftershocks may occur.

Deaths from Philippine storms nears 1,000: govt

MANILA (AFP) - – The death toll from two devastating storms that struck the Philippines over the past month has risen to 858, with ensuing disease outbreaks killing 89 others, the government said Monday.
The latest National Disaster Coordinating Council toll is up from 818 on Sunday.
It said Tropical Storm Ketsana left 420 dead and 37 missing when it flooded 80 percent of Manila on September 26, a disaster the government said affected 4.35 million people.
Some areas are still flooded three weeks later and 189,000 people remain in evacuation centres, it added.
Typhoon Parma hit the northern Philippines on October 3 and lingered as a tropical storm for a week, triggering landslides that killed 438 people and leaving 51 missing mostly in mountain communities.
The government agency said Parma affected 4.16 million people, including more than 32,000 who remain at evacuation centres.
The health department said leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that can lead to kidney failure and is caused by exposure to animal urine in flood waters, later killed at least 89 people.
Even as the northern Philippines tries to recover from the twin disasters, another typhoon is threatening more devastation for the area.
Civil defence officials have put rescue teams on standby and stockpiled relief goods with Typhoon Lupit, packing winds of 175 kilometres (109 miles) an hour, forecast to start bringing bad weather to the region by Wednesday.

Pacman mulls going to US earlier
ABS-CBN - Saturday, October 10
Pacman mulls going to US earlier

MANILA --Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao might go to US ahead of schedule to continue his training as continued rains brought by Typhoon “Pepeng” are starting to affect preparations for his November 14 fight.
Pacquiao, who is currently training in Baguio City, is entering his fourth training week on Monday for his upcoming fight against World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champ Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas.
According to Ferdie Marquez, the musical director of Pacquiao’s after-fight concert with Filipina singer Madonna Decena, the boxer might fly to the US on October 19.
"Ang alam ko pagsige-sige ang ulan ay baka umalis na siya papuntang US baka hindi na siya bumaba ng Maynila. Kasi instead of 24 baka 19 na lang ay aalis na siya," Marquez told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Marquez said he received the information from the boxer’s close friend and musical composer Lito Camo, who wrote Pacquiao’s hit songs “Para sa Iyo ang Laban na ‘To” and “Lahing Pinoy”.
"Kasi siyempre hindi na siya makapag-training ng maayos dahil sa bagyo," said Marquez, who also works as the musical director of Camo’s band “Kalsada”.
He said Pacquiao and Decena were supposed to hold a three-night rehearsal in Baguio for the after-fight concert starting Friday (October 9) until Sunday (October 11).
"Hindi kami [na]tuloy kasi sarado na ang mga daan [dahil sa bagyo]. Kahapon niya (Pacquiao) pa kami hinihintay kaso nga hindi talaga pwede," said Marquez.
Baguio City has become virtually isolated after several landslides hit Benguet province as "Pepeng" continued to bring heavy rains over several areas in northern Luzon.
At least 45 people were confirmed killed while dozens more remain missing after landslides hit parts of Baguio City and the rest of Benguet. Threats of more landslides have forced city officials to close major access roads, literally isolating the city from nearby provinces.
Marquez, however, assured that Pacquiao is in a safe place and is still busy doing indoor training.
Pacquiao earlier planned to spend half of his eight-week training in Baguio City before flying to the US to continue his camp at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California.
But his adviser Mike Koncz said Pacquiao’s stay in the City of Pines could run for 4 weeks or even more. If it goes five weeks, then Pacquiao may skip Los Angeles and head directly to Las Vegas.
The storm, however, might prompt to change Pacquiao’s plans again

Landslides kill over 90 in Philippines: officials

MANILA, Philippines (AFP) - – More than 90 people were killed in a series of landslides brought about by heavy rains in mountainous provinces of the northern Philippines, local officials said on Friday.
Sixty-nine people died in Benguet province as landslides struck on Thursday night and Friday morning in five different towns, provincial governor Nestor Fongwan said.
In the mountain resort city of Baguio, 17 people were killed as landslides buried whole houses in different parts of the city, said city administrator and civil defence official Peter Fianza.
A landslide also left five dead and 32 missing in Mountain Province, said provincial governor Maximo Dulag.
The northern Philippines has been pounded by heavy rain since Typhoon Parma hit the country on Saturday.
Parma weakened into a tropical depression but has lingered over the north of the Philippines' main island of Luzon.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council's death toll from Parma on Friday morning was 25, however it was not immediately clear how many of the dead reported by the local officials were included in that tally.
Parma hit the Philippines exactly one week after tropical storm Ketsana pounded Manila to the south on Luzon, killing at least 337 people.

FLOODING IN NORTH LUZON

Flooding in N. Luzon is 'turning from bad to worse'
GMANews.TV - Friday, October 9

(Update 3 - 12:29 a.m.) LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Half of Pangasinan province’s 48 towns and cities are now flooded due to continuous rains brought by Typhoon “Pepeng," the provincial government said late Thursday night.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said floods were also reported in Dingras, Nueva Era and Paoay towns in Ilocos Norte; and Bangar and Luna in La Union.
Among those areas in Pangasinan so far affected by floods are Asingan, Balungao, Basista, Bautista, Bayambang, Binalonan, Sta. Barbara, Dagupan City, Mangaldan, Natividad, Rosales, San Fabian, San Jacinto, San Manuel, San Quintin, Sta. Maria, Manaoag, Mapandan, Pozorrubio, Sison, Tayug, Umingan, and Villasis.
Rescue operations have already been launched in some of these areas.

Aside from the nonstop downpour, floods in the province have been aggravated by the opening of six San Roque Dam floodgates to release water and thus prevent the reservoir water from breaching its walls and threatening a catastrophic collapse. Pangasinan public information officer Butch Velasco told radio dzBB in an interview that San Roque Dam is now releasing an “unprecedented" amount of water of 6,000 cubic meters per second from 3000 cubic meters per second on 7 p.m. ‘It’s really unprecedented this kind of volume of water. Ngayon lang nangyayari sa history ng Pangasinan (It's happening only now, in Pangasinan's history)," he said.
An earlier report from the Pangasinan governor's office put the San Roque water-release figure at 3,150 cubic meters of water per second.
Other dams that have been releasing water in the last few days include Angat, Pantabangan, Ambuklao, Magat, and Binga dams.
(For GMANews.TV's Pepeng interactive disaster map, with locations of dams, recent road conditions, and vulnerable areas, click here. )
Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo said in a radio interview with dzBB that he was informed by Commodore Jose Luis Alano, head of the Naval Forces in Northern Luzon, that the flood situation in northern Luzon has begun “turning from bad to worse."
This page requires a higher version browser"That's why (Alano) is asking for reinforcement already para madagdagan ang tropa ng Navy na magreresponde sa lugar na yan (so we can add to the Navy troops in that area)," said Arevalo.
Most flooded
As of Thursday night, Pangasinan has become by far the most flood-devastated northern Luzon province.
Pangasinan provincial administrator Rafael Baraan said the flooded municipalities and the cities in the province are made up of 225 villages.
The most flooded area in the province so far was San Fabian town, according to provincial spokesman Butch Velasco.
Around 4,000 people have already been evacuated from the town, where flood water has reached rooftops, Velasco said as he appealed to the national government and non-government organizations to send in rubber boats for rescue and evacuation.
He said the local government’s equipment is not enough.
As part of rescue operations, Velasco said the local government has already deployed 10 dump trucks to fetch residents in affected areas. Elements of the Army, Coast Guard, and Red Cross have been likewise deployed to assist in the operations.
Worst cyclone
Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr. said Pepeng is the worst cyclone he has seen under his administration.
"I think this one will be bringing more damage to Pangasinan," he said as he compared Pepeng to other strong cyclones that hit the province such as "Cosme" (2008) and "Emong" (early 2009). Espino said he has been pushing for preventive evacuation in areas near the Agno River since Sunday when it was announced that Pepeng might return to the country. He however assured that rescue operations are ongoing and that relief supplies are sufficient.
Police Superintendent Wilson Lopez, chief of operations and plans division of the provincial police, said they are still confirming reports of casualties in the affected towns and cities. Widening disruption
The extensive floods triggered by Pepeng have caused a widening swath of destruction in Luzon, which has yet to recover from the disastrous Sept. 26 floods.
In Alcala, Pangasinan, residents are beginning to complain of food shortage in local markets due to the damage caused by Pepeng to farmlands. Continuous rainfall has caused knee-deep to six-feet-deep floods in the province.
A long section of MacArthur Highway in San Manuel, Tarlac has become impassable to all kinds of vehicles due to rising floods. The highway is a key artery linking Metro Manila and Central Luzon to the Ilocos and Cordillera regions.
In Tarlac City in Tarlac province, non-stop rains and the release of water from the San Roque dam have also flooded farmlands and minor thoroughfares.
In San Jose City in Nueva Ecija, stranded vehicles continue to queue along Maharlika Highway, the road linking the province to Cagayan Valley. City officials have already ordered the opening of five evacuation centers for affected residents.
The continuous rainfall has also caused landslides in Baguio City that have rendered Kennon and Naguilian Roads impassable, according to Olive Luces of the Office of Civil Defense in Baguio City.
Other flooded Luzon areas
Several villages from other provinces in northern and even central Luzon were flooded too, according to NDCC in its 6 p.m. report.
NDCC said floods also affected at least seven villages in Ilocos Norte and six in La Union. Likewise flooded were Baliwag and Calumpit towns in Bulacan; Sta. Ana town in Pampanga; and Botolan town in Zambales.
Evacuation centers in the provinces of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Baguio City and Benguet were reopened Wednesday night.
Preemptive evacuation is ongoing in Nueva Ecija's Gapan and Cabanatuan cities; Licab, Zaragoza, Rizal, Quezon, Allaga and San Isidro towns, all of which are near the Pantabangan Dam.
The Pantabangan Dam is only .49 meters short of reaching its spilling level, Gov. Aurelio Umali said in a radio interview. He said 98 out of 849 villages in the province are already submerged in floodwaters.
In Pampanga, evacuation is ongoing in towns near the Pampanga River Basin, including Candaba, Arayat, San Simon, Apalit and Santo Tomas, the NDCC report said.– with Aie Balagtas GMANews.TV

Turning Point

May of 1996... It was the hardest decision I made in my entire college days when I finally decide to put an end being me as Engineering student. Uncertainties in mind during those time pushed and put me into inevitable (perhalfs for me) - I shifted Course from BS Civil Engineering to BS Inland Fisheries. They were all disappointented including my Sister Vilma- that time she was in Hong Kong working. Others like my classmates shocked when learned this time for good I won't be on the same direction we usually tracked. I have friends but they not there to comment on the matter- simply because they are not literally present... they were the first to left the college and me!
Five long years I spent in that course, I felt I'm unlucky like others there with irregular schedules and some with back subjects too. But of coarse most of my batch/classmates graduated and took thier board exam. as scheduled. Few of us Left behind! It was hopeless for me that I can't even think what to do next because of the pressure my SELF and I giving to ME. Its not too late I know but it was too hard to move on towards the path... I was thingking of giving up! Then during the Whole summer vacation, taking another Course became an option and bothered me night and day because of frustrations... Out of Loneliness with no friends left, that was it... it came so fast without twice thinking when the last day of enrollment came,I enrolled in College of Inland Fisheries- New faces and strange subjects and Professors right on my face as in they are welcoming new students on the first day of class on the buildings that is far enough to start.
I found the right place! Feels at Home.. never like this before I told to myself... There was so much good memories then , I have done a good job according to my decision, no one dictated me. Up to now I have no regrets...none at all. Others say that pain is inevitable but suffering is not a must. Mastering to absorb that pain is part of journey, I will be wise to conquer the hard obstacles and then proceed, forget the pain behind me and face the future.
I Graduated April of 1999 armed with knowledge and hope to pursue and determined to make-up on those days that passed. With much experience that made me strong, places and people that defines who I am now- Truly I can carry on...

Shop

Nasa Hong kong si Michelle noon ( Ang asawa ko) nagtrabaho sya sa uncle nya.. almost 2 years din sya bago umuwi for good dito sa Pilipinas. Pero during the time na nandoon sya katulad ng karamihan na nasa ibang bansa communication is very important kaya naman by any means ginagawa para makausap ang family...So that time Iam Zero knowledge about the internet at wala talgang alam sa computer. It was june of 2006 surprisingly na may dumating na message through text...ino-offer ako ng Smart Bro na maging isa sa mga PILOT o test subscriber sa boung Pampanga na ang alam ko 15 persons lang kami sa ibat ibang area.. later on dumami na at successfully nag-boost ang internet addiction at all age levels basta marunong mag-click ng mouse... so nag-avail ako para atleast makausap ko with video ang misis via messenger.... Noon I have no intention para pagkakitaan (ang internet)what so ever.

The next month parang di nako mapalagay, naghahanap na ko ng mga lumang PC para pang dagdag sa mga unit ko , I am gaining interest with the internet cafe business... so nandyan na magpunta ko sa iba-ibang seminar ng smart bro to give some motivation to those new subscriver para mag-avail din sa promo nila hoping na mabigyan uli ko ng isa pang slot pero di naman nila ko pinagbigyan kaya my last resort is to build my own PC with the help of my technician sya ang naglagay ng specs. and assembled it.. that way nadagdagan ng isa pa ng mga unit ko...On semptember of the same year naglakas loob na ako na ang mag-assemble ng PC ko using my short experience gained on my short duration of operation-swerte namn at gumana. Naging matipid ako sa lahat, iniipon ko talaga lahat ng kinikita ng shop hanggang sa nakompleto ko ang 10 sets of computer station. hindi pa ko nasiyahan kaya kumuha pa ko ng mga units the next year 2007 pero this time all units are brand new payable in 6 months sa lending- 5 months pa lang bayad ko na sya.

As of now i have 21 units including the server- currently i am upgrading the crt monitors to LCD's para mas competitive because i have my counterpart na d2 maga nanggaya ba- dahil ako naman talaga ang nag-stablised dito sa area namin.

Last quarter of the year is about to start... malapit na ang Holiday seasons maganda nanaman ang Aura ng mga business.

My plan is still way ahead... marami pa ko gusto para sa expansion... I am happy of what I am doing.. excited pa nga ako pag iniisip ang pwede pang development ng aking SHOP.

Lababo

I wonder if gaano sila karami sa Pilipinas? Gaano na karami ang nagawa nilang lababo?

Store hour

Eto ang sa tingin ko ang importante.... at the end of each day you have your pride na atleast wala kang amo na nag-uutos sa iyo.

BUNTIS!

Kwento ko lang dates not specified.

Si Michelle...asawa ko She is more than Three months pregnant at syempre masaya kami pati ni Sharlah na panganay namin. Im hoping for the best... HELP US LORD!

UTAK

This is my first POST.. how i intruduce my self is another question in my mind, hindi naman ako wierdo i just want na ma-express as others want.. the way they want. Good Luck on my way to this great BLOGGING... And may I call it " RUTA".
